Within our busy society we are rushed, pressured with the expectation of accomplishment, and are completely over scheduled - to some of us, this can seem like a very fulfilling life. The truth is, it creates a constant buzz of chaos in our psyche, drains our adrenal system and ages us prematurely. Many other cultures rely on old ways practices to create a balance among the chaos . . . the English take time for "afternoon tea", a mid-afternoon pause for a light snack and a refreshing cup of tea to reset for the late day activities and awaken the senses. Danish and Nordic peoples practice a "Hygge" lifestyle which translates to "creating comfort and coziness" or a practical way of creating a sanctuary in a very real life. In short, our lives could FEEL so much more full and content if we made these moments of pause a priority. It can be as simple as setting aside 5 minutes in the morning for a pampering beauty treatment to start your day off feeling loved, taking a 15 minute break in the afternoon for a healthy snack served on your favorite china sitting on your patio in the sunshine, or soaking in a fragrant herbal bath for 20 minutes in the evening listening to your favorite soundtrack. The only goal of accomplishment in these moments should be to honor yourself and to treat yourself to a mini vacation among the chaos. Moments are fleeting and finite - make them count and make them memorable, not a blur. Because honestly, why not ??? Here are some simple suggestions:
+ light candles on the dinner table to make weekend meals seems like a special occasion or "date night"
+ bake a healthy seasonal coffee cake to enjoy with afternoon tea for a moment of pause
+ play peaceful music during your morning routine to create a feeling of ease throughout your day - set the mood and your intentions for the amazing day ahead!
+ avoid TV or computers 1 hour before bed -- opt for a book or magazine.....something inspirational, educational, or fantastic to allow you to travel through your dreams.
+ create a day off ritual that you look forward to each week - a short hike, cooking an elaborate meal, crafting, gardening, or creative writing . . . something to embrace your creative side and give your business brain a rest.
+ pick 10 minutes a day to sit in silence - experience the sounds of nature and work on learning to avoid your inner dialog during these moments. this creates a healing space for your mind/body/soul.
We have the power to make every day of our lives a special occasion - we just need to realize that we are truly worth the effort.
